A Writer’s Resolution: Setting your goals for the New Year with Christine Walker

Ideal for writers wanting to make a deeper commitment to their writing practice and career

LAB • Monday, January 12, 2026 • 4pm-6pm PST

Most of us make and break resolutions every year. This lab defines “resolution” as a quality of character, which can be focused to serve our writing practices and careers. Stronger than unbreakable, a writer’s resolution is resilient and curious, determined and imaginative, and can steady us through the ups and downs of a creative life. With resolution, we state our intentions, explore them from various points of view, and act strategically. I created “A Writer’s Resolution: A Journal for Realizing a Rewarding Writing Practice” for Sibyl Craft as a journal with self-guided activities to envision and propel our writing practices. In this lab, I’ll facilitate and expand upon those activities.

The Sibyl Writing Craft courses are held via a private zoom link, allowing you to participate from anywhere.

  • You will receive your private Zoom link via email one week before the course.

  • A reminder email will be sent 24 hours prior to the course start time.

  • We will email any essential course materials, handouts, and recommended resources prior to the start of the course.

In this Lab, we will:

  • Envision Your Future: Learn to clarify your intentions and create a compelling vision for a rewarding writing practice.

  • Create Your Roadmap: Develop strategic goals and actionable steps to turn your creative vision into a tangible reality.

  • Commit to Your Path: Design a personalized plan for professional growth that you can stick with for a resilient and lasting writing career.

Commit to Your Creative Life. Your rewarding writing practice is waiting.

What is the difference between a Confab and a Lab?

Sibyl Writing Craft offers two distinct types of courses. Learn about each below to help choose which is right for you.

  • What is a Confab?

A Confab is a focused 75-minute session led by one of our mentors. It’s an engaging, information-rich talk on a specific topic—like writing vivid characters, revising your manuscript, or understanding publishing. Confabs are designed to give you practical insights you can apply right away.

  • What is a Lab?

A Lab is a longer, hands-on course lasting three or more hours. Labs may take place in a single immersive day or unfold across multiple weeks. They’re designed for deeper exploration, interactive practice, and direct feedback from your mentor.
