The Joys and Challenges of Revision: A Hands-on Approach to Forming and Finishing a Project for Publication

Writers wanting to take their revision process to the next level

LAB • Saturday, January 24, 2026 • 9am-11am PST

Writing is discovering; revising is discovering more. If writing is a journey, revision is the vehicle and the road, the tires and the engine, the feet and the shoes. Our intention is the key; our first draft gets us out the driveway. Revision carries the manuscript to its destination and beyond. We take what we learn from each process, apply it to the next, and discover—again!—that every project requires its own revision to reveal its own best form. By approaching revision as an adventure, following rules of the road and trying new methods, we open our writing practice to greater possibilities. Each session will focus on attendee work and moving it forward in the revision process.

The Sibyl Writing Craft courses are held via a private zoom link, allowing you to participate from anywhere.

  • You will receive your private Zoom link via email one week before the course.

  • A reminder email will be sent 24 hours prior to the course start time.

  • We will email any essential course materials, handouts, and recommended resources prior to the start of the course.

In this Lab, we will:

  • Create revision “travel kits” to enhance what’s working and take us further

  • Find courage to cut one word or a thousand and encourage more words

  • Discover what our “darlings” might teach us before we kill them

  • Seek and receive constructive criticism as a way to improve

Begin your discovery. Unlock your manuscript's true potential.

What is the difference between a Confab and a Lab?

Sibyl Writing Craft offers two distinct types of courses. Learn about each below to help choose which is right for you.

  • What is a Confab?

A Confab is a focused 75-minute session led by one of our mentors. It’s an engaging, information-rich talk on a specific topic—like writing vivid characters, revising your manuscript, or understanding publishing. Confabs are designed to give you practical insights you can apply right away.

  • What is a Lab?

A Lab is a longer, hands-on course lasting three or more hours. Labs may take place in a single immersive day or unfold across multiple weeks. They’re designed for deeper exploration, interactive practice, and direct feedback from your mentor.
